🧬 Hands-On Learning in Biology! 🔬🐉

Today, LPHS Biology students in Mrs. Brady's class put science into action with an engaging 9-station Biology activity! Students rotated through hands-on, visual, and problem-solving challenges designed to introduce and reinforce foundational science concepts.

At each station, our Dragons were challenged to observe, analyze, make connections, and think critically—building the skills they’ll use throughout the year.

We love seeing our students learning by doing! 💚🧪

🐉 DRAGONS SHOW UP. MOMENTUM FOLLOWS. 💚

This week, LPHS Administration met with students from each grade level to kick off the new school year with clear expectations and the tools students need to be successful!

During these grade-level meetings, students reviewed important topics including:

📚 Academic Success — GPA, academic eligibility, schedule changes, and exam exemptions
⏰ Attendance & Tardies — why showing up every day matters in the classroom and for extracurricular activities
🛡️ Campus Safety — FortifyFL, lockdown procedures, controlled campus expectations, reporting concerns, and our Safest Area Shield
👕 School Policies — dress code, phone expectations, tardy procedures, and other important policies
🎓 Student Support — introductions to grade-level administrators, deans, and guidance counselors
🏫 Daily Procedures — hallway movement, GoGuardian passes, lunch expectations, Study Hall procedures, and more
🔥 Getting Involved — encouraging every Dragon to find a club, sport, organization, or activity and become part of the LPHS community!

Starting the year with clear expectations helps our Dragons understand what it takes to be safe, successful, involved, and ready to learn.

💚 Here’s to a great 2026–2027 school year!

🎉🐉 DRAGON ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: LILLY CANEVARI! 🐉🎉

LPHS is proud to celebrate Lake Placid’s own Lilly Canevari for earning national recognition as a member of the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) National Agri-Marketing Association team! Lilly, who is studying Agribusiness at ABAC, helped her team earn an impressive 4th-place finish in the 2026 NAMA Collegiate Marketing Plan Competition, competing against top college programs from across the United States and Canada!

The team developed MelonMulch, an innovative concept for a biodegradable, bio-based mulch film made from unmarketable watermelon rinds. Their project challenged students to create a comprehensive marketing strategy while addressing sustainability needs in the agriculture industry.

The competition gives college students valuable real-world experience in agribusiness marketing, professional decision-making, and industry preparation. ABAC’s team advanced through the preliminary, semifinal, and final rounds to earn its fourth-place national finish!
💚 We love seeing our LPHS alumni continuing to achieve BIG things! Congratulations, Lilly! Your Dragon family is proud of you! 🐉🎓🌱

LPHS graphic announcing Tuesday, August 11, 2026, is a B Day. A calendar shows key August and September dates. LPHS follows an A, B, C day schedule: A Days are typically Monday and Wednesday; B Days are Tuesday and Thursday; C Days are Friday, when students attend all classes with no Study Hall. If there is no school on Monday, Friday becomes an A Day. Midterm and final exam schedules may differ. The LPHS Dragons logo and “Dragons Show Up. Momentum Follows.” appear at the bottom.
📢 Need a Schedule Change? Read This First!

If you need to request a schedule change, be sure to complete the correct Schedule Change Request Form on the LPHS website for your grade level.

✅ Include the exact name of the course you want to drop and the course you want to add.
⏳ Please be patient—requests take time to process, and submitting duplicate requests only slows the process for everyone.
⚠️ Remember: Graduation requirements take priority, and one schedule change request may affect your entire schedule.

The deadline to submit schedule change requests is Thursday, August 13, at 3:30 p.m.

Graphic with a black background and bright green text explaining how LPHS students can request a schedule change. Students are instructed to visit the LPHS website, scroll down, and select the Schedule Change Request form for their grade level (9th–10th or 11th–12th). They are reminded to include the exact name of the course they want to drop and the replacement course they wish to take. A screenshot highlights the two schedule change buttons on the website. The graphic also states: Not all requested schedule changes can be approved. Graduation requirements take priority over elective requests. Requests may take several weeks to process, and students should not submit duplicate requests for the same change. A schedule change may alter the student's entire schedule, including class periods. Schedule change requests are accepted only through Thursday, August 13, at 3:30 p.m. An LPHS Green Dragons logo appears in the bottom-right corner.
📚 LPHS Students (Grades 9–12): Your Semester Exam Exemption Starts NOW! 🐉

Every student has the opportunity to earn a semester exam exemption—but it starts with the choices you make from the very first day of school.

To qualify, you must:
✅ Maintain good behavior (no ISS or OSS)
✅ Have 8 or fewer absences during the semester
✅ Have 8 or fewer first-period tardies - This means Study Hall attendance matters!
✅ Earn a B or higher in each quarter

Remember, weighted courses (AP, Honors, IB, Dual Enrollment) and semester-only courses are not eligible for exam exemptions.

Flyer from The School Board of Highlands County titled "Semester Exam Exemption." The flyer explains that students must meet all four requirements to qualify for a semester exam exemption. Requirements include: Behavior: no in-school suspension (ISS) or out-of-school suspension (OSS) during the semester. Attendance: eight or fewer total absences, whether excused or unexcused, during the semester. Punctuality: eight or fewer tardies to first period, excused or unexcused, during the semester. Academics: earn a grade of B or higher in each quarter. Students will be notified of their exemption status during the class period before the scheduled semester exam. Weighted courses (Dual Enrollment, AP, IB, Honors) and semester-only classes (0.5 credit) are not eligible for exam exemptions. The bottom section explains attendance expectations on exam days, including that students exempt from all exams for a day do not need to attend, students exempt from only the first exam should arrive before the second exam begins, and students leaving after an exempt second exam must have a signed pass or parent check-out and leave campus immediately. The flyer uses navy blue, teal, white, and gold with icons representing behavior, attendance, punctuality, and academics.

Showing up ready to learn starts with coming to school in dress code every day. Following the dress code helps create a respectful, distraction-free learning environment where everyone can succeed.

Please take a few minutes to review the dress code and be sure you're ready before you leave home each morning.

Important: Students who are out of dress code will now be assigned ISS until appropriate clothing is provided by a parent. A second offense will result in ISS for the entire school day.

Let's make great choices, represent LPHS with pride, and keep our momentum going all year long! 💚🤍 #DragonsShowUp #MomentumFollows #LPHSDragons

Lake Placid High School dress code infographic with the heading, "Dress Code – Dress Appropriately. Show Respect. Represent Our School." The poster uses example photos to illustrate prohibited clothing and accessories. Students may not wear short shorts; crop tops; open-back shirts; off-the-shoulder shirts; clothing that exposes undergarments; sagging pants; hats; sunglasses indoors; bonnets or head scarves; or hoodies with the hood up. Holes or tears in jeans and shorts must not be above fingertip length. A reminder in the center reads, "Be a Dragon. Make Good Choices. Every Day. Everywhere." The bottom of the poster states that students out of dress code will be assigned to ISS until a parent provides appropriate clothing. A second dress code violation results in ISS for the entire school day.
