🔦🧬 Shining a Light on Biology EOC Review at LPHS!

Mrs. Brady’s Biology students are preparing for the Biology EOC with an interactive flashlight scavenger hunt review activity. Students worked together to search for different colored question sets, answer review questions, and solve riddles to earn points.

It was a fun and engaging way to reinforce important biology concepts while keeping students active and involved in their learning. Great job to Mrs. Brady and her students for making EOC review both educational and exciting! 🐉💚

Congratulations to the final group of LPHS students who earned Ducks Unlimited Industry Certification this school year! Through hands-on learning in Environmental Science classes, these students demonstrated their knowledge and commitment to conservation, wildlife, and environmental stewardship.

A special thank you to Mrs. Boak for her dedication to providing meaningful learning experiences and helping students achieve success. We are proud to share that 71 LPHS students earned Ducks Unlimited Industry Certification this year!

A huge thank you to LPHS General Athletics for providing delicious Chick-fil-A breakfast sandwiches this morning, the Class of 2026 parents for the sweet dessert treats, and Key Club for the thoughtful appreciation pots, seeds, and candy gifts shared throughout the day.

Interact breakfast kicked off Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week at LPHS with a delicious spread of Mexican hot chocolate, pan dulce, donuts, and coffee for our staff to enjoy! ☕🍩

Our amazing parent volunteers followed with a beautiful springtime grazing table filled with fresh fruits, meats, cheeses, and sweet treats—truly a feast to celebrate our teachers. 🌸🍓

Teachers were also treated to thoughtful gift bags from Ms. Kelson and the African American Culture Club, along with motivational gifts from FBLA to keep the encouragement going. 🎁💚

On April 27th and 28th, Mr. Halpern’s and Mrs. Boak’s Honors Biology classes attended a field trip to Archbold Biological Station, focused on plant structures and functions in preparation for the Biology EOC on Wednesday, May 13th. Students participated in nature walks and gained first-hand biology experience, enhancing their understanding through real-world exploration.

Highlights included collecting specimens for analysis under microscopes and engaging with biological researchers in their lab, giving students a deeper connection to the concepts they’ve been studying in class.

On Friday, April 17th, Lake Placid High School Aerospace students attended the Sun 'n Fun Airshow and Aviation Expo in Lakeland with their fellow Highlands County Aerospace Program peers. Highlights included touring displays by aerospace technology companies, learning from our team of expert chaperones about historical aircraft, and witnessing (many for the first time) the Thunderbirds' precision formation flying. Special thanks to JB Engines for sponsoring a pizza party where students met aerobatic pilots from Redline Airshows before they performed at the event.

On April 24th, two teams of Lake Placid High School chemistry students represented Highlands County at Chemathon 2026, held annually at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Accompanied by Mr. Halpern and Mrs. Oinonen, students took leveled chemistry tests, entered a "Quiz Bowl," conducted experiments, toured state-of-the-art laboratories and were treated to an exciting demo show and awards ceremony.
