LAKE PLACID HIGH SCHOOL BAND SEPTEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH DRAGONS JOSÈ RIVAS Josè is a senior at Lake Placid High School. Music plays a major role in his life. Josè is a second year member of the LPH Marching and Concert Bands and serves as a Quartermaster for the 2024 Marching Band. In addition to playing trombone in Band and singing in our new LPH Choir, Josè also plays cello, marimba and guitar and performs in his church's handbell choir. He played cello in the LPM and LPH orchestras for 5 years, and this past summer attended Pensacola Christian College's Summer Music Camp. In February, Josè performed a trombone solo at the FBA District 13 Solo and Ensemble MPA Festival and earned a Superior rating in his first year playing trombone. After graduation he plans to attend college and continue performing music. Congratulations Josè!

The application for students interested in joining the Highlands Career Institute is now open. The application is located on our website at any of the links or buttons that say "Apply to HCI". There have been a few changes of note from previous years of program openings in January: -The Medical Assisting program will be accepting applicants for January (must currently be in 10th grade) -The Culinary program will be accepting applicants for January (previously only had Fall enrollment) -The 911 Dispatch program will be accepting applicants for January (students must be in 12th grade) The seat availibility is currently very limited for Electrical Lineman, Automotive Service, and Automotive Collision for January, but students are encouraged to apply in case seats become available and to show interest for the the start of next school year.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. This past Saturday, September 7, 2024, the LPHS Cross Country Team hosted a Home Meet in Venus for the first time. Both the girls’and boys’ teams came in 3rd place. Coach Palacios said, “It was not an easy course, but all of our runners managed to keep close to their average times!”Special recognition goes to Kepson Charite who came in 1st overall in the boys' race with a time of 19 minutes 31 seconds!
Congratulations to Kepson Charite who is our Mid Florida Roofing, Florida Lakes Spa, and Florida Lakes Surgical Athlete of the Week Winner! Kepson has won his last 2 cross country meets for Lake Placid. Last Saturday Kepson got a time of 19:27. Coach Palacios and Coach Dolan have this to say about Kepson- Kepson's times are very impressive. Not only is he a great runner, Kepson motivates his teammates as well. You can catch Kepson under the Friday night lights with the football team too! Congratulations Kepson! 🐉
