Just after 9:00 am this morning at Lake Placid High School, a student reported potentially seeing another student in possession of a weapon. The school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, and law enforcement responded immediately. Lake Placid Middle and Lake Placid Elementary were also placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to their proximity to LPHS.
After a thorough investigation by the Highlands County Sheriffโs Office, it was determined that this was not a credible threat. There was no student with a weapon, and there had never been any danger to students or staff.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. All potential threats against a school are immediately and thoroughly investigated, and we encourage students to always report anything they see or hear regarding a threat against the safety of others.
